'Tasty' social networking sites

Web is an amazing place. I feel like I am always behind on something new coming out. We got myspace and facebook and twitter and classmates.com. The list can go on and on. I know I do not have enough time in the day to maintain my facebook account, so I don't even try any more. But yesterday I stumbled on something new (at least for me, LOL)

There's a popular social bookmarking site with a 'tasty' name: delicious.com. Anyone who creates an account at delicious.com can create & save & share her own bookmarks (favorite sites) on multiple computers and search/view popular bookmarks that other people have. Bookmarks can be categorized by category. The popular searchable bookmarks are those that many people add to their browser via delicious.com This is a great way to let others view your favorite bookmarks. This is also a great way for you to see what sites other people surf the most.

As you can imagine, I want to promote gamecolony.com because I think this is the best site in the universe. So I created an account at delicious.com & added the following bookmarks (favorites):

http://www.gamecolony.com - as 'games'

http://www.gamecolony.com/gin-rummy.shtml as 'gin rummy'

http://www.gamecolony.com/cribbage.shtml>http://www.gamecolony.com/cribbage.shtml as 'cribbage'

http://www.gamecolony.com/backgammon.shtml as backgammon

http://www.gamecolony.com/dominoes.shtml as 'dominoes'

If you love Gamecolony as much as I do, please promote http://www.gamecolony.com/ on delicious.com.

Java or Decaff?

I have to confess that I am not very computer savvy. Having GC's Webmaster who is a Geek Squad rolled in one, I never really had to install any sofisticated updates, battle computer viruses or decipher code. I can muddle along Sun Java installation or even conquer a Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, but only under duress. So when webmaster said that we will have most of Gamecolony popular games as a Java-free option, I was elated. I call them decaff because although they do not make your heart race in that caffeinated can-I -handle-this-tech-issue sort of way, they still offer all the satisfaction of coffee. Even better, they can be faster and prettier than the Java-version games.

So now we have Backgammon for Windows available at http://www.gamecolony.com/gcbg.shtml

and Gin for Windows available at http://www.gamecolony.com/gcbg_ginrummy.shtml.

Cribbage for Windows is coming very soon.

All you have to do is go to the above link for each game and click 'Download Game' button. I promise, within 3 minutes you will be happily playing gin rummy or backgammon. You will not have to sweat through Java isntallations, call tech support or anything else.

Enjoy!

Flu Season At GC

Guess what? You cannot get flu (swine or any other kind) at www.Gamecolony.com.

You can cough and sneeze all you want during your cribbage game, you can touch your face while deciding on a chess move or rub your eyes while waiting for your opponent to discard a card, but you cannot get the flu.

Things you do need on your computer to prevent it from getting the virtual flu is good Virus protection and regluar Windows updates (provided you are not a MAC groupie). Norton and McAfee come to mind first. Keep your computer healthy and enjoy flu free season at http://www.gamecolony.com/

Gamecolony Community

Did you know that Gamecolony is a virtual community? We have forums and ladders and chat and competition. You can come to Gamecolony in a bad mood, play a few games and chat with a few people and become happy and energized :)

Gamecolony Forum is a great place for announcement. If somebody is sick, the forum can become one giant get-well card -- and you know how imortant it is to send out positive vibes to sick people. We all become collective healers :) When hurricane Katrina hit, Gamecolony's forum was a place to annouce all sorts of charity donations.

On a happier note, Gamecolony's Forum is a place to share funny stories, send birthday wishes or announce 29 point crib. For those of you who are cribbers, 29 point hand is something worth shouting about.

Come visit Gamecolony soon.

Blogging at Gamecolony

Welcome to my blog. I am Gamecolony's webmsitress and it is my job to review other players' blogs. I've seen grave blogs and silly ones, one-liners and longer than 'War and Peace', colorful and balck-and-white. Now I think I am ready to try writing my own blog.

Gamecolony is a colorful place for game-lovers to get together and compete in games of skill. Here are some great things about Gamecolony:

  • Play 24/7 with game lovers from around the globe

  • Chat while you play or just chat in the rooms

  • Play for real tickets (1 tix=$1US) or play for fun

  • Compete in multi-player tournaments

I'll try to write each day and pick one great topic about Gamecolony to cover in-depth.
